Blast furnace slag is the solid waste generated during iron making. It is a new economic growth point for the steel companies to strengthen the comprehensive recycling of blast furnace slag and to develop a novel energy-saving and environmentally friendly treatment of blast furnace slag.This paper introduces the commonly used process of blast furnace slag. The characteristics, production process and equipment composition of slag treatment are emphasized on the aspects of advanced technology, investment size, system security, environmental protection, quality of product residue, system operation rate, equipment repair and maintenance and floor area. And this paper demonstrated the basis and advantages of Ventura crushed slag treatment process.An improved scheme was proposed after the analysis of the new-built 2200 m3 blast furnace slag processing system granulating wheel failure after production expansion. Starting from the analysis of the ejection process when the slag flows through ditches and falls into the granulating wheel lining plate, the author obtained the relationship between the velocity of slag melt flow out of gully head, projectile distance, ditch head shape of gully head and slag melt flow, and the reason why the granulating wheel failed after production expansion.The improved slag processing system works well with the smoothly operating granulating system and the granulating wheel's service life is greatly prolonged.
