In recent years, with the rapid development of computer technology and in-depth study of Finite Element numerical method as well as stamping process theory, the use of CAD / CAE integrated technology make automobile and die enterprise gradually get rid of traditional design method which is reliance on experience and repeated trial. And this technology will play an important role in shorting development cycle and product competitiveness improving.The work of this paper is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China project "The Independent Research of High-speed Simulation and Optimal Process Design aiming at the Formability of Automobile Panel" (NO.50575080) and National Key Technology R&D Program (No. 2006BAF01A43). The target of this paper is to design and implement a CAD / CAE integration system for automotive panel and metal-covered fields.In this paper, the status and development trend of CAD / CAE integration technology has been raised, and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of integration technologies in order to put forward innovative CAD-centric, top-down in the parametric design for design-led thinking of CAD / CAE integration approach, and on this basis to complete the design of the system architecture.Based on the characteristics of automobile panel forming process, the function and demands of the pre-process system is analyzed particularly, and then design a Process-Feature-Tree which is a virtual process of automotive panel stamping process design characteristics by using SolidWorks Secondary development technology. On this basis, this paper conducts in-depth studies of the parametric SolidWorks assembly technology of virtual assembly and virtual tools assembly technology, to achieve the parameters of the CAE tools assembly. As well, the paper gives a research of sequence data access technology, and makes a data object to hold the custom data which will be accessed. In addition, the authors also put forward the concept of the virtual sheet metal, and use it to solve the entire process automatic assembly problems provided to check the animation display tool interfere in the issue of the whole process.The system achieved a seamless integration with SolidWorks, to provide users with the concept of a design-oriented, product design, process design, die design, virtual test mode processes the entire solution. The system considering real influence of friction, holding force, draw bead and the other actual process conditions, can simulate the effects of gravity, pressure-process simulation, drawing, Trimming, Flanging, Springback and so on. Last through the simulation of typical automobile panel and progressive die, validate the Complete Stamping Process and parameters of the characteristics, also the accuracy and practicality is proved.
