Ultrasonic vibration cutting technology is developed based on the traditional turning technology, the ultrasonic vibration is applied to the tool, so that the tool periodically cuts and leaves a workpiece, It is a new processing technology which combined the traditional cutting technology advantages and ultrasound technology. Ultrasonic generator, transducer, horn, finishing tool and other components are the key factors of the finishing properties, processing parameters are the key indicators that determine the effect of ultrasonic vibration finishing. Therefore, the investigation of the vibration system process parameters optimization and various vibration system components design are important.In this paper, the mechanism of ultrasonic vibration turning and ultrasonic roll extrusion of metal outer surface is investigated, the similarities and differences of traditional turning and ultrasonic vibration turning, traditional Burnishing and ultrasound Burnishing is compared. Established cylindrical metal surface ultrasonic vibration finishing dynamics model, investigated the ultrasonic vibration finishing features, the movement of the cutting edge, and the mechanism of cutting fluid cooling and lubricating theory. Based on the ultrasonic vibration finishing mechanism, the ultrasonic vibration system and finishing tools are designed. Investigated the finishing effects of spindle speed, feed rate, amplitude, frequency and other parameters on the processing of the metal outer surface.Results of this study show that the designed ultrasonic vibration finishing system meets the test requirements. By comparison, the additional ultrasonic vibration turning and roll extrusion process performances better than unattached ultrasonic vibration turning and traditional Burnishing. When the ultrasonic vibration turning on the workpiece surface, the most important factor on the quality is speed, followed by feed and original surface roughness, the smallest factor is pressing depth, the optimum parameter combination is the surface roughness of 2.727, rotational speed of 900 rpm, feed rate of 0.120 mm/r, pressure depth of 0.25 mm; when the ultrasonic vibration roll extrusion process, there is an optimum value of static pressure, spindle speed, processing times, and the vibration amplitude. And the optimum values the static pressure of 300 N, spindle speed 500r/min, processing times of 5 times, and amplitude of 6μm.
