NC machining simulative technology can simulate the real machining process by computer. The results of machining could be displayed in many ways with this technology. It has been widely used in NC machaine designing, NC teaching, NC system debugging and CAM. Currently, many NC machining simulative systems are lack of realistic sense. Aiming at this situation, a high realistic NC machining simulation system is researched in this thesis using virtual reality(VR) technology. The machining simulative system is developed in four steps, overall design, software achievement, hardware system setting up and whole system debugging.In order to simply the system development, the whole system was divided into five functional parts after analyzing the demands of the NC machining simulative system. All parts were successfully developed. Aiming at different applications, some kinds of 3D display systems were designed. Finally, a high realistic NC machining simulative system based on VR technology has been established.1) Overall designAt the stage of overall design, the following works have been finished. Firstly, the system development idea was summarized based on analysis of the NC simulative system demands. Sconedly, a suitable software development platform was selected which contents VS2008, Vega Prime5.0, GLstudio4.5.1 and GLstudiofor VP5. At last, modular developing process has been put forward.2) Software developmentThere are four steps need to be completed at the stage of software achievement. Firstly, a suitable method to modeling the NC machine has been found after compared multiple ways of model transformation and simplification. NC machine VR model was built successfully with this method. Sconedly, a control system was built so that the NC machine could be controlled in three ways. The first one is controlling the NC machine by calling NC codes stored in an external text. The sconed one is controlling through operating the NC panel. The last method to control the machine demands operators to input the NC codes through the keyboard on the panel. Thirdly, some interactive functions including the operational NC panel were designed to support the users to use the control system. Fourthly, an easily implemented cutting algorithm based on the selected software platform was designed. The machining simulative workpiece was modeled in the method of planar discretization.3) Hardware system setting upAt the stage of hardware system setting up, 3D display systems of NC machining simulative system based on VR technology was established combined with the VR hardware including HMD(Head Mounted Display), Stereographic projection equipment and Crystal Eye stereo glasses.4) Hardware and software debuggingAt the last stage, the whole system including software system and hardware system has been test.
