With people’s living standard has continued to rise, the demand of convenient, nutritional and safe foods are great. Canned foods with no preservatives are sterile and convenient which help to meet the needs. And canned seafoods have the increasing needs. Now, the irregular cans are widely used, which provides a bright prospect for the machinery of irregular cans. There are few domestic businesses develop the related machinery. The perfection of the curled end determines the sealing performance of the seamed can. Therefore, the research of curler for irregular ends is very practical.This paper on the basis of consulting the curler for irregular ends at home and abroad, designs a new type of curler for irregular ends and analyses the principle of the curler which is divided into the blanking mechanism, the feeding mechanism and mold mechanism. Design and calculation of the three parts and proposes practical structure scheme. The blanking mechanism adopts a pneumatic device and a four bar mechanism, the end is fed by crank-rocker-slider mechanism, the twin cam realizes the motion of positioning plate and punch. The positioning plate fix the end to ensure the quality of the end and it is an innovation of the dissertation.The forming simulation and springback of the end is based on Dynaform software which could prognosis the quality of the end. The component parts of curler are drawn by Pro/E software, the virtual prototype is structured. The static and dynamic interferences checking of the assembly model by the software verify the validity of the assembling. Then, the simulation analysis is carried out, the curves of velocity, acceleration and displacement are measured which verify the rationality of the curler for irregular ends.At last, the prototype of curler is manufactured, the performance testing is conducted, the normal speed could reach 100 epm. The problems of the curler are summarized, and the future work is prospected.
