With the progress of science and technology and the development of production,more and more difficult-to-cut materials which have performance of high hardness,high strength,high toughness and high brittleness are widely used.lt is high energy consumption and low efficiency in the traditional way of machining.In this paper,in view of the strong arc machining technique has the advantages of high machining efficiency and it is not restricted by the factors such as the material hardness, strength, toughness and so on.In order to resolve the problem of deep hole machining in mechanical processing.it provides a new ideas and method to the deep hole processing that the strong arc will be used for the deep hole processing.The strong arc machining technique is a novel special machining technology. This paper introduces the principle and mechanism of strong arc processing, and analyzes the factors of the corrosion of materials discharge influence as well as the electrode materials. Several kinds of difficult-to-cut materials with the strong arc machining technique have been experimented. After experiment, the surface quality of the material, the heat-affected of processing area is analyzes as well as the change of microstructure and hardness of the material. It is concluded that the processed material has a poor surface quality, but it can get a more consistent surface quality. In order to improve the processing efficiency, the cooling of the processing zone is needed.The mechanical properties of the processed material will not affect the subsequent processing.The system of the strong arc in deep hole trepanning processing and the electrode head is designed. Beside that several kinds of difficult-to-cut materials with the strong arc in deep hole trepanning processing technique is experimented.After analyzing the experimental data, it finds out that discharge area has the effect on peak current size, covering have the effect on the depth of material, and electrode wear and material properties have the effect on processing speed. Through the experimental study, it is concluded that the strong arc in deep hole trepanning processing is feasible and it will have a greater development in the deep hole processing of difficult-to-cut materials.
