With the development of petroleum and natural gas resources, pipeline construction of pipe quality management requirements are becoming higher and higher. Whether it is the major domestic pipeline construction requirements, or the foreign markets, the informatization construction is the development trend of welded pipe. Automatic ink jet printer is the basic equipment of the welded pipe informatization construction. Based on the requirments of Shandong Shengli Steel Pipe Co.,Ltd for clearly printing symbols on pre finishing welding of spiral welded pipe production line, a new automatic spurts the code machine has been designed and finally successfully used in the componay. This system has high working efficiency, good reliability, the printing symbols are clear and unified, which can effectively avoid pipe number recognition errors. Automatic printing machine can make communication with fine welding MES system, which establish a casing tracking system in order to realize better production quality control management.According to the process characteristics of the production line, the overall layout of the automatic printing machine and structural were designed; and through the needs analysis, the performance indicators and the main function of the automatic printing machine were determined. After determining the layout of the program, the overall of the printing system was designed, and the roller in steel pipe straight forward process was determined ultimately. Using three nozzles and spray printing in the pipe head and tail can ensure that there was a pipe can be clearly identified in the subsequent production inspection. At the same time, according to the functional requirements, the whole system was divided into the host computer printer, slave computer and execution unit three parts. The host computer processed data, coordinated PLC and integrated print controller, at the same time with the MES system communication, so that making the ink jet system as part of the MES system. Slave machine data collected information, sent out the instruction execution unit to work, and maintained communication with the host computer. The execution unit was responsible for the actual work of jet printing.After determining the coding way, electromagnetic valve type automatic sprinkler nozzle with 16 dot matrix was choosed, which was composed of 16 nozzles, each nozzle was controlled by the electromagnetic valve, the electromagnetic valve was controlled by a pulse signal and the point on the surface of a steel pipe formed words. This way can meet the production requirements with reliable, economic and easy maintenance.About mechanical design of jet printing system, in order to satisfy the spray printing steel pipe diameter range of Φ610~Φ610 mm, also ensure that the nozzle and the steel pipe of the best clearance from 20 to 35 mm, three nozzles were designed to be easily adjusted with inclined slide and leading screw. At the same time spray nozzle cover and rotating device were designed to prevent the spray head is damaged by pipe. Tachometer was designed to measure the running speed of steel pipe, so as to determine the printing speed, which can help to ensure the font is clear and beautiful. The steel pipe head and tail detection mechanism were designed to provide the necessary signals to realize the automation. The Solidworks software was used for 3D design in this paper thus improved design efficiency.The electrical design of printing system was consisted with PC, PLC and integrated print controller with a combination of Siemens high-speed counter module FM350 and encoder to realize automation control. The interface between the host computer, the MES system and the PLC was designed by RS232C serial communication, TCP/IP protocol communication and PROFIBUS-DP protocol communication respectively. From the production practice, communication was normal and electrical system work stable and reliably.In order to meet the needs of customers, the design of this system software are considered including PLC programs and PC monitoring programs in order to ensure that the program running can be stable, reliable and the software has clear interface and easy to be operated. The design of PLC program was based on working process which was divided into maintenance, manual and automatic three different kinds of control mode. Modular design was adopted to improve the programming efficiency and simplify the debugging and maintenance of the system.In order to achieve the jet printing speed control and acquire clear and beautiful printing effect, encoder pulse was adopted to control nozzle pulse electromagnetic valve The design requirements and functional structure of the monitoring software were put forward and the main monitoring interface was designed. Finally, the automatic printing system in the study was successfully applied on the production line of the pre-finish welding of spiral welded pipe in Shandong Shengli Steel Pipe Co. Ltd.
