Fault diagnosis of cold-formed equipment is a new technology, which developed rapidly in recent years at home and abroad. The research and application of cold-formed equipment fault monitoring and diagnosis system is vital to avoid huge economic loss and disastrous accident. Expert system is the core of artificial intelligence.It is a kind of computer software system based on knowledge, which combines the knowledge and experience of many experts in a certain field. It can perform inference on those experience and knowledge in accordance with expert mode of thinking, then make intelligent decisions. The use of expert system can make more accurate and rapid diagnosis for the cold-formed equipment faults, achiving the transition of maintenance mode from preventive to predictive to extend the life of the unit, thus creating enormous economic and social benefits.From the intelligence point of view, the article choose the cold-formed equipment as the research object, mainly studies the constructing principle of the intelligent fault diagnosis system about cold-formed equipment. Based on the operation mechanism and fault characteristics of cold-formed equipment, a knowledge base of expert system is established in line with the fault characteristics of cold-formed equipment. The least square estimation is used to quantitative analysis for the equipment operation status, then make the reason of failure located by this algorithms compred with the the reason determined by expertise, so that the troubleshooting is more accurate.The cold-formed equipment fault diagnosis system proposed by this paper is divied into two parts, front-end online automatic monitoring and back-end diagnosis. To realize the part of front-end online automatic monitoring, the least square estimation is chosen to judge the operation status of the equipmen; in the part of back-end diagnosis system, the use of fault diagnosis tree can realize the identification of faults. In the other words, the order of faults is as the branches and the nodes of trees, then comprise a fault tree with a causal relationship. Finally, through the actual data to test, the fault diagnosis erpert system on the basis of the technology put forward in this paper is usd to identify the operation status of cold-formed equipment and fault analysis.
