With the improvement of economic and cultural level, people call for personalized garment which can meet their perceptual requirements. As a result, garment design, based on customers’ perceptual demands and combining with computer aided design, becomes a new trend in the field of fashion design. This paper aims at establishing knowledge bases for an interaction garment design system according to the perceptual demands of fashion customers.Research is conducted from the angle of setting up garment database. The categories of garment are classified according to multiple principles so that users can choose a garment category quickly when designing a garment. The variable features of garment, including top wear, dress, pants and decorative elements, are analyzed and summed up to variable features knowledge base. To set up garment product family structure on the basis of garment parts, garment style is modularized after the analysis of variable features.Research is continued from the perspective of establishing perceptual demands of customers. Perceptual adjectives(PAs) that describe the effects when wearing clothing are gathered and classified to express customers’ demands. Large amount of PAs are collected and then extracted to representative PAs from 6 specific angles, which result in 6 pairs of representative PAs. Through the results of surveys for experts, garment parts are linked to customer perceptual demand. This is also the requested data of recommended process data requirements in interactive design system. At last, by adopting IGA theory, the whole garment data base for interactive garment design system is settled down. The design result is displayed through 3D garment software, based on which the garment pattern can be obtained to connect to garment production.In this paper, Human-computer interaction model is applied to garment design system. The modularization design method is introduced to establish the database of garment parts and garment product family. Therefore, an efficient data storage framework can be established. Perceptual evaluation model is built based on relationships between garment style characteristics and perceptual features. The framework of interactive garment design system is established through the analysis of their key elements.
