Five-axis NC machining technology is a significant method for complex surface to realize high speed, high precision and high efficiency machining. It is widely used in aerospace, military, automotive and ships industries. Contour error is an important indicator to evaluate NC machining precision of workpiece contour which gets more and more attention. A special post processor is developed for self-research five-axis NC machine with dual rotary tables. Here integral impeller is used as machining object for process analysis, programming, simulating and machining at site. The contour errors of machining integral impeller are detect and analyzed.Firstly, based on the programming rules of self-research five-axis CNC system and structure characteristics of dual rotary tables five-axis CNC machine, the post-processing algorithms are studied for this CNC machine. Special post processor is developed.by using post-processing constructor of UG/POST.Secondly, in accordance with the principle of five-axis process and the structure characteristic of impeller, the machining process of impeller is analyzed. ’Combining with the arrangement of impeller process and selection of cutting parameter, the five-axis NC machining programming of impeller is realized with UG/CAM. The CL data is turned into machining code by special post-processor.Finally, NC machining simulation environment is built in VERICUT software to test the machining program and verify the processing on five-axis NC machine. The points cloud data of impeller are collected by 3D scanner. The scanning model of impeller was imported into Geomagic Control to compare with CAD model for analyzing the machining contour error.The experimental results show:(1) the machining program can be generated accurately with the special post processor, process analysis and programming. It is suitable for self-research five-axis NC machine with dual rotary tables to machining. (2) According to contrast and analyse impeller’s contour error, it can improve the contour precision of impeller with feed speed ameliorating.
