As the growth of economic construction of coal demand in our country, the research and usage of large power coal cutter is imperative, and the coal cutter whether can work security and reliable catch the issue of people’s attention day by day. The ranging arm is an important part of the coal cutter, suffererd various kinds of dynamic load when at work, the ranging arm whether can work normally is very important to the whole coal cutter. The test was with the ranging arm of large power coal cutter of J71 A tape which apply to the thin seam as the research object, it mainly conducts a numerical simulation, which systematic researched the dynamic characteristic of the ranging arm. The paper also optimized analysis the ranging arm on this basis, and got the main results as followed:(1) By researching the ranging arm of J71 A tape large power coal cutter, we established the three- dimension object model of the ranging arm system;(2) According to the actual working conditions of shearer, we got radial load information by mechanical analysis, which provides the theoretical basis for the research in the later article.(3) Established the rigid flexible coupling analytical model, did the kinematical simulation, tested transmission ratio of the ranging arm gear system, studied the stress and deformation rules when the ranging arm at different working condition, and got the dangerous occasion when the the ranging arm at work;(4) The paper was with the dangerous working condition as the research object, and modal analysis was carried out on the ranging arm, got the modal shape of the ranging arm at different working condition, combined the measured data in the mine’s coal cutter and and transient dynamics analysis was carried out on the ranging arm, got the dynamic response, and analyzed the equivalent stress and displacement when the ranging arm was at response process, got the dangerous part of the ranging arm.(5) The paper was also with the dangerous part as the research object, established the optimization model of the ranging arm, got the reasonable thickness of the dangerous part. The phenomenon of stress concentration was improved after optimizing the ranging arm construction, the mass of the ranging arm was lightened.The result should be the main reference to a similar mechanical system of kinematics analysis, dynamics analysis and optimized design.The test include 55 graph, 19 chart and 92 references.
