With the rapid development of petrochemical industry and the increasing scale of production, preventing fire and explosion accidents becomes an important issue. A large number of flammable gases, flammable liquid vapors accumulate in production process which form explosive environment. The electrical equipment on the job is likely to produce arc, spark or form a hot surface If they encounter with the explosive mixture, fire and explosion accident will take place, which brings a threat to the security of national property and people’s life. Therefore, the assessment of explosion risk of explosion-proof electrical equipment in the petrochemical industry and the strategy of prevention and control are crucial for the safety of petrochemical industrial. In this paper, the explosion-proof electric equipment in petrochemical industry sites is taken as the research object and the explosion risk assessment model in petrochemical industry sites is created. The main contents of this paper are as follows:( 1) Explosion-proof electrical equipment current application research analysis. According to the investigation and analysis of the application status to the explosion-proof electrical equipment in the petrochemical industry, the hazards and fault features of explosion-proof electrical equipment are summarized in the view of two types of hazard installations. Analyzing the characteristics of the risk of all kinds of explosion-proof electrical equipment, in order to establish risk assessment indicator system to lay a good foundation.(2)Indicator system of the explosion risk possibility of explosion-proof electrical equipment. Potentially dangerous state of explosion-proof electrical equipment is summarized in corresponding with key parameter indicator of the equipment using the existing standards analysis and Delphi methods. A indicator system of the explosion risk possibility of explosion-proof electrical equipment is created from the level of dangerous area, ventilation, key parameter indicator of different kinds of explosion-proof electrical equipment.(3)Assessment method of the explosion risk possibility of explosion-proof electrical equipment. The method’s thinking of FMEA and Delphi method are used to analysis risk index of each indicator. Portfolio weighting method based on CV and Delphi is used to set the weighting of each indicator. The relationship between the whole system which include of the explosion-proof electrical equipment and the environment and the various subsystems is studied. A risk assessment mathematical model is created based on the above research.(4)Analysis the potentially explosive consequences and risk integration. The types of potentially explosive consequences are analyzed based on the characteristics of different process equipment in corresponding with the classification of process equipment and ETA. An assessment model of explosive consequences is created based on the risk analysis of the equipment. The possibility of risk and the severity of consequence are integrated by risk matrix. Relative to objectively assess the petrochemical industry explosion-proof electrical equipment explosion risk degree, and propose corresponding prevention and control strategies according to risk level.(5)The petrochemical industry explosion-proof electrical equipment explosion risk assessment programming and application research. The risk assessment program is programming according to the explosion-proof electrical equipment explosion risk assessment model by Microsoft C# language. In order to find the feasibility and the result of engineering application, the risk assessment model and program are applied to a chemical site.
