Gear tooth modification can reduce dynamic loading caused by transmission error, and can reduce load concentration caused by machining errors, tooth profile deviations and elastic tooth deflections. So the load distribution between gear teeth is more rational, and the load distribution along meshing line on a tooth is more even. The applicability of electrochemical machining for gear tooth modification is wider. The application of this technology can not be limited by hardness of gear and gear construction.This paper began with mechanism of direct current electrochemical machining, discussed the virtues and detects of it, put forward a new idea of replacing direct current with pulse current. This paper deeply researched the change of process after the pulse current was introduced, as well as the influences on efficiency and quality of machining.On the basis of theory research, machining device of column gear is designed and manufactured, and some effective factor to impulse electrochemistry process are analyzed. Some checks to gear appearance change are also processed.Gear tooth surface appearance affects strongly friction and lubrication property of gear. It is confirmed by experiments that electrochemical machining makes anticathode surface smooth and high aiguilles on tooth surface are destroyed. All of these will enhance the performance of gear.This paper has illustrated the new technology of gear tooth modification with pulse electrochemical machining will be fairly valuable. It has wide prospects in applying.
