Data acquisition is an important function of Distributed Numerical Control (DNC) systems. With the rapid development of manufacturing automation and enterprise information, the requirements of enterprises to gather manufacturing information automatically become more and more intense. Since most DNC systems in our country have no the function of acquiring the status information of running machines automatically. It will be very meaningful to study and develop an advanced data acquisition system for DNC systems. An effective data acquisition system can help the enterprises exert the potential of their DNC systems, make the best use of the available resource and speed up its automation process. On the whole, it will improve the productivity, competition and economic benefits of the enterprises.At first, this paper presents the current development of DNC data acquisition technologies. Then, it analyzes how to develop better data acquisition systems under the influence of advanced manufacturing technologies. Secondly, it analyzes and summarizes the composition, the functions and the framework of a typical data acquisition system. In this part, the author also gives great emphasis on discussing data acquisition methods, communication methods, OPC (OLE for Process Control)-based data acquisition methods and other system-integrating methods. On the basis of the above analysis, a model for a data acquisiton system was put forward, and applied to a practical DNC system successfully.
