In this paper, the USB technology combined with traditional data acquisition device has been applied to the design of data module device on numerical control system. The main significance is providing a wide range of data acquisition methods for Software-based CNC system, especially the feedback of digital acquisition.Universal Serial Bus (USB) has been used widely in PC and embedded systems for its low-cost, Plug-and-Play, high transfer rate and low power consumption. Data acquisition using USB interface and applied to numerical control system is the most important feature of the subject, is also the key to the significance of the research.This acquisition system not only can monitor all software NC machining conditions, but the geometric displacement of the mechanical axis also can be feedback directly to the host computer for real-time interpolation ,which is the trend of numerical control system development. At the same time, it has some, can be used in other industrial areas universally.The data acquisition module is designed with USB host by enhanced 8051 chip, high-speed USB data transfers, data processing on PC host, including hardware design, firmware design, and application software design. The selection of the USB chip, EZ-USB FX2 chip and HCTL-2032 decoder chip and the specific hardware design according to their performance and characteristics are given on hardware design. In the part of firmware development, the whole process of design and its hierarchy has been introduced, followed by details of the design process at all levels, and give some source code and flow chart. In the host-side application software design part, the host-side control panel interface design has been briefly described using Visual C + + 6.0 for development, fulfill the control of the module through the interface.There are many defects of the traditional bus (RS232 or RS485, ISA and PCI),such as slow transmission speed, limited interfaces, no guarantees of availability and real-time on data acquisition and transmission and many other shortcomings. USB data acquisition systems has been used in CNC, machining CNC system for monitoring provide a new method; while the data acquisition module fit the software development trend of numerical control system, provide a new way for the information feedback of the software-based numerical control system.
