Nowadays the main CAD software in the market has strong function in geometry model and has a good foundation on the assembly information expression. However, it is not completely same as the real assembly process, For example, it is lack of the truly detailed expression in the hole and shaft assembly such as tolerance of dimension, tolerance of form and position, surface precision, material application, i.e. It causes that the assembly which seems feasible in virtual environment is not feasible in real assembly process, and has a bad influence on the assembly quality. So it is important to research the virtual assembly technology of real assembly for the drawback of the CAD software. In this way, it ensures the real assembly which is possible in virtual environment considering the factors which have influence on the assembly quality and it not only guarantees the quality of the assembly, but also cuts down the expenditure and heightens the productivity.The paper presents the researching work which has been done: the logical datum structure of the CAD geometry model has been researched and based on it, the spare parts as assembly parts entity model of assembly information added have been built; a lot of essential factors which have influence on the quality of spare parts assembly has been studied, and a method of testing the quality according to the real assembly condition has also been advanced; the method of building assembly information and knowledge database has been studied, and take the hole and shaft assembly for example, the paper build the assembly information and knowledge database in limited range; meanwhile, the paper studies the assembly function of CAD software and a software unit has been developed, demonstrating and verifying the virtual assembly technology of real assembly information model from the tenet.
