Study Of Environmental Cooperation In Northeast Asia

"Environmental problem" is an important issue with which the international society is generally concerned. International Cooperation in the environmental protection is an important reflection of current international relations on environmental problems. Nowadays, the environmental cooperation in Northeast Asia is attracting more and more attention from the academia. At the same time, it has become an important issue in the study of international relationships. Northeast Asia has experienced impressive economic growth rates for about 30 years, at the same time this region has faced serious environmental problems, such as acid rain, sandstorm and sea pollution. These problems are transnational and indivisible, which decides that the goal to protect regional environment cannot come true if only depending on the effort of a single country. And the only way is to urge each regional country to cooperate with each other for the purpose of environmental protection. Moreover, there are both theoretical base on international environmental cooperation and practical impetus. Northeast Asia already formed new frameworks of multi-channel, multi-level and multi-domain in regional environmental cooperation through collective efforts within the past 10 years. However, restricted by various factors, especially the power and concept structure, lack of institutionalization, regional cooperative regime in Northeast Asia is not yet constructed. Instead, it is still at the stage of conceptual formation such as forum, research and interchange of information, still far away from having an effective environmental regime. So, it will be the developing tendency to enhance the construction of institutionalization and build environmental cooperative regime and even Northeast Asian Environmental Community. The environmental cooperation in Northeast Asia is bound to make further development. Meanwhile, it will contribute to creating a generally developed, commonly prosperous and permanently peaceful Northeast Asia and building Northeast Asian harmonious society.
