The research of borate ester surfactants is still in the initial stage. Borate ester surfactantsis a kind of special surfactants with excellent surface activity, which possess muchcharacteristic features compared with ordinary surfactants, e.g. antistatic, antiwear, flameretardancy, etc.. Surfmer is a kind of surfactant which has not only hydrophobic group andhydrophilic group but also polyradical group. Surfmer has the special feature ofpolymerization in definite condition, which make surfmer use in some special fields. In the paper, three kinds of polymerizable borate ester surfactant with differ chainlengths has been prepared. They are OBE,LBE and HBE,which is characterized by IR,~1H-NMR. The effects on the yield are investigated. Under the best conditions, the yield ofOBE is 95.7%, the yield of LBE is 93.3% and the yield of HBE is 89.6%.Surface tension and critical micelle concentration of OBE,LBE and HBE have beenresearched, and the effects ofpH and NaCl is also evaluated.Emulsifying property and blowing characteristics of these three surfactants have beenresearched. The results show that the emulsifying property of HBE>LBE>OBE>Tween-85,and OBE,LBE and HBE all have low ability of blowing characteristics. The complex systems of these three surfactants with SDS or CTAB have been explored, and the results of these complex systems are all good.Metal corrosion inhibition property of these three surfactants have been researched, andcompare with regular inhibitor OP-10 and Tween-85. The results show that OBE has the samemetal corrosion inhibition property with OP-10 and Tween-85, and LBE and HBE have thebetter metal corrosion inhibition property than the property OP-10 and Tween-85.
