Radix astragali is The roots of Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge. var. mongholicus (Bge.) Hsiao, or Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge., known as Huangqi in China, which belong to Family Leguminosae and is a perennial herb growing in the northeast, northwest and southwest of China. Radix astragali is the most important tonic in the Traditional Chinese Medicine to reinforce "qi" (vital egergy), to strengthen the superficial resistance, and to promote the discharge of pus and the growth of new tissue. It has long been used as an anti-perspirant, adiuretic of atonic. It is widespread used in clinical treatment. This thesis includes there parts:In the first part , the pharmacognosy identification, botanic origins, chemical constituents, pharmacological action and clinical treatment of Radix astragali have been summaried, and the paper has reviewed the recent application of fingerpoint chromatogram and Serum Pharmacochemistry. The second part is made up of the following sections:1. The chemical constituents of Radix astragali have been researched. By means of silica gel, tow isoflavonids have been obtained.they are formononetin and Calycosin.2. Several factors are obtained from the orthogonal test to extract isoflavone. The MHE method was compared with other extraction methods.3. The preparative technics of effective fractions have been researched. With the amount of the total saponin as the evalutation index, Viaing absorption by macroporous resin, the amount of the total saponin and isoflavonid effective fractions can attain 50%.4. The fingerprint of Radix astragali has been studied by HPLC. In order to control quality , two kinds of fingerprints were established. Under the selected chromatographic conditions and detectors. Satisfactory separation of 15 main constituents in Radix astragali by HPLC was obtained.5. The Serum Pharmacochemistry of Radix astragali has been studied by LC-MS,and compare with the chromatogram of effective fractions. In order to determine the effective constituent.6. An GC-MS method was established to determine the organic acids of Radix astragali, cetylic acid, linolic acid and olic acid in Radix astragali.
