In 1989, Sweden develops the flat-pipe belt conveyor . At present, this kind of belt conveyor is not produced, the researches on the design and the optimization methods of the parameters about the flat-pipe belt conveyor are seldom reported in China. The flat-pipe belt conveyor has the advantages over the ordinary belt conveyors: sealed-up run, steep transportation, three-dimensional curve transportation and prevent the conveyor belt torsion. Therefore, the article has conducted research to the design and the optimization methods of the flat-pipe conveyor and can build a better foundation for the study and development of this kind of new belt conveyor.This article analyzes the resistances of the flat-pipe belt conveyor. It discusses the belt extrusion resistance , wedge-shaped resistance and flexural resistance of belt in detail. An accurate calculating method for belt extrusion resistance is put forward . Using the knowledge of Mechanics of Materials, Energy conservation theorem, analyzing the condition of material and the shape change of belt, it also gives the calculating method of the wedge-shaped resistances. Besides, it calculates the flexural resistance coefficient of the flat-pipe belt conveyor in theory and analyzes and the influence of its factors.Machinery system optimization design is becoming more and more important in recent years. The equipment cost can be reduced and the efficacy of equipment can be raised by the optimization. According to the transect of the flat-pipe belt conveyor, this paper shows a way to work out the best parameters by building and solving the mathematics model. Under the regular working condition of the flat-pipe belt conveyor, the best roller spacing between rollers can be conducted, taking the roller number as the function designing variable and the working minimal power consumption as the target function. The change way of tensioning force have an obvious effect on the tension and the slack adjuster , which can be improved when the tensioning force changes according to the tensioning optimizing curve.
