Environmental-friendly and high-performance is the development trend of phenolic resin. In this thesis, instead of formaldehyde, five kinds of water-soluble phenolic resin are produced from sugar and phenols. The demand of environmental-friendly is satisfied in this way. First, instead of formaldehyde, sugar solve the problem of environmental pollution and human health which was caused by formaldehyde in phenolic resin. Comparing with organic menstruum ,water menstruum has the following merits. 1. low cost 2. less harmful to the environment 3. innocuous and safe.In the first part of this paper, we selected the best catalyst for this experiment. Then, we optimized the experimental conditions by orthogonal analysis and response surface analysis, compared the effects of two different curing agents to the degree of cure, and characterized the resins by IR and TG.In the second part of this paper, the inverse-microemulsion polymerization system of acrylamide and sodium acrylate was preliminary studied. Low viscosity, expedient transportation, high stability, high-performance are the outstanding features of the inverse-microemulsion polymerization which has already attracted broad attention. Inverse emulsion polymerization is a distinguishing method to prepare water-soluble polymers. The type and concentration of surfactants and oil-to-water ratio are the key factors to determine stability of inverse emulsion.Effect of stirring speed, dosage of emulsifiers, dosage of initiating agents, monomers consistency and reaction time on molecular weight of anionic polymer, reaction yield, emulsion stability and retention, and drainage aid properties were intensively investigated. Orthogonal analytical method was then applied to discuss the influence of reaction temperature, initiators dosage, reaction time and monomers consistency on molecular weight.
