With the improvement of people's living standards in China, the society has been paying more attention to environmental issues. At present, there are many environmental monitoring information systems in China, but most of them are imperfect, and can not satisfy the need of the sustainable development and the environmental protection. Therefore, environmental information by the study of new detection methods has become an urgent requirement.Synthesizing the technology of the sensor technology, the embedded computation technology,the modern network ,the wireless communication technology and the distributed information processing technology, The WSN is a self-organized distributed network system which is composed of a mass of tiny sensors nodes that has the sensation ability,the computation ability and the traffic capacity. Because of its low-power, self-organizing routing, wireless and other characteristics, the WSN is very applied to environmental monitoring system and has the very great value on the study.However, as a newly emerging technology, wireless sensor networks for environmental monitoring system will face many challenges. In environmental monitor, monitoring points often layout in some remote areas away from the center, and wireless sensor networks with short-range communication technologies can not send collected data to the monitoring center using its own network. To address this situation, this paper of the wireless sensor network is based on Zigbee and use GPRS as data communications, it is the distributed system which is composed of the wireless sensor nodes, the sink node and GPRS data transmission modules. Between the sink node and sensor nodes exchange information by Zigbee technology, wireless sensor nodes with a radio transceiver are responsible for the perception and handling of data and send data to the sink node, the sink node transmit directly data to GPRS module, and then GPRS Module by the form of SMS transmit data to Monitoring Center. Monitoring Center which is connected to the sink node through GPRS network and access to the collection of relevant information through GPRS network complete effective control and management over the scene, According to the experimental verification, this system has satisfied the distance demand of environmental monitor, had high reliability, which can facilitate the realization of monitoring network.
