| Noncircular contour parts are applied in many fields such as automotive, biomedical, aerospace and other manufacturing industries. Due to the special contour type, traditionally, the noncircular parts are manufacturing by general machining process, resulting high costs of tooling and long set-up time. With the development of manufacturing technology, the noncircular turning process has emerged as a successful alternative to the manufacturing operations mentioned above.In allusion to domestic non-circular section parts processing, this article bring forward a new processing method with whole numeric control. This method is using the soft profiling which is formed with the angle information collected by basic shaft rotated code device and the radial dispersion of the linear motion actuator instead of the hard profiling to finish the manufacturing procedure of the piston ring free molded lines. Penman successfully developed a numeric control external circular lather of piston ring based on this method. And cutting some special parts of the non-circular cross-section to verify the performance of the machine . The primary study coverage of this article is:1. Using the harmonic analysis principle to analyze surface characteristics of the noncircular contour parts and turning process when cutting the parts, including tool movement characteristics, feed speed and feed acceleration.2. Choosing the direct drive of linear servo motor and designing the structure of the feed system based on analyzing several current main feed drive systems. Making analysis of mechanical properties on tool holder and work platform and analyses cutting capacity of the feed system by velocity and acceleration characteristics of turning piston ring, oval and hexagon non-circular cross-section parts.3. Control system of the tool are designed. And designing the electronic cam based on analyzing the open CNC system as the core of IPC and PMAC. PLC programs are designed, built and debugged.4. Test the machinability of the feed drive system on the noncircular turning lathe by cutting three special noncircular contour parts practically including piston ring, oval and hexagon . |
