As a key part of hoist, transportion and bearing equipments, the steel wire is widely used in a lot of project practices. Once the steel wire broken in running, it will cause extremely serious personnel casualty and the economic loss. Therefore, steel wire's damage detection has been attached great importance to the countries in the world, to become a world-wide phenomenon, both theoretical as well as practical value of the important research topic. This paper devotes to design a virual instrumnt system, which is used for detecting the changing tension and intensity of runnning steel wire. The system is combination with two main parts, hardware and software. The hardware part mainly implement acquiring and condiioning of the annlog signals. At first, two modules is designed to pick up and condiion wie ropes' tension and intensity signals. Followed National Instrument Inc.M series DAQ card, PCI 6251 is used to acquire and tranform the output of previous modules to a comprehensible from to the PC.In the softeware part, the virtual instrument detection software is exploited through the graphics advanced language LabVIEW. Some functions are realized, such as data acquisition, analysis and process, graphical storage. The paper utilizes Microsoft Access as database to manage the date in the LabVIEW. The data in the LabVIEW can be saved, added, searched, deleted, and so on.The exploited detection system has the characteristics of stable and reliablecapacity, friendly and direct-viewing interface, easy operation, nimble design, high degree of automation. With the introduction of virtual instrument, the user can control the whole detection process through the computer easily. Besides the detection system can be improved and modified according to the users' actual need at any moment, which makes the detection system applicability more widely.
