Automatic steel binding machine is a key equipment of product packaging in steel enterprises. Packing quality affects lifting, transportation, product sales and competition ability of enterprises directly. Every steel enterprise pays attention to packing quality of products. Research of steel binding machine starts relatively late in China, and its design theory is very deficient. The products can not meet the requirement of high quality steel binding because of its scarce of theory. Most steel binding machines used in our country are imported. In order to speed up the study on the development of steel binding machines, research on key parts of automatic steel binding machine is very necessary.Depending on relative articles, the structure and feature of steel binding machine are introduced in this article. The overall structures and work principal of bar binding machine are analyzed. It is suggested that how to choose a binding material and how to design a mechanical part or assembly such as wire feeding guide, twisting mechanism etc. The force of binding wire in a certain guide is calculated by using elastic-plastic theory and Finite Element Method. The formula of wire feeding force is concluded and verified. In the course of calculation, the forces and deformation of wire are analyzed by using ANSYS software. The forces between wire and radial ball bears and the frictions of wire in wire feeding guide are obtained. The wire forces calculated in different ways are compared.Design theories on key parts of steel binding machine are obtained. It will provide theoretical guidance for the research of steel binding machine. It has great significance to realize design and manufacture of automatic steel binding machine in China.
