Gear has been used extensively in the mechanical transmission and the whole mechanical field. Gear mechanisms transmit motive power by the teeth of the driving wheel driving the driven gears in turn. It can pass the rotary movement of the parallel axis, intersecting-axis and cross axis. Therefore, Gear transmission technology has become an important part of engineering technology, and marks the level of mechanical engineering technology development in a certain extent. Although the technologies for the design and manufacturing of gears have been improved quite a lot in these few decades, the stability,the carrying capacity and the service life of gears are all factors restricting the development of gear technology. Thus, researches on developing innovative gears with better characteristics are necessary.The involute arc cylindrical gear which this paper puts forward is one new type of gear transmission form. Arc cylindrical gear has some excellence for example: it has good mesh capability,the axial force could be cancelled one another,the transmission efficiency is high,the anti-curved intensity is big,the tooth face contact intensity is good and so on. The arc cylindrical gear has the superior transmission characteristic,so it could replace the using of spur cylindrical gear,helical cylindrical gear and herringbone cylindrical gear in the majority application environment. And it also has other characteristics, for instance steady transmission,low transmission noise,high efficiency,long service life, etc. It can be used in the arc cylindrical gear pump,arc cylindrical gear retarder and some other fields. It has the broad application prospect.However, due to the structural parameters of the involute arc cylindrical gear have not been conclusive ,That would inevitably hinder the gear processing technology research and application. After analyzing the geometry parameters and process methods of similar arch cylindrical gears which be mentioned in documents. This paper puts forward ideal geometry parameters of arch cylindrical gear. Based on this, it analyzes the mesh characteristics of two tooth surfaces of gear pair. By graphical representation of the tooth-surface equation and the mesh line expression,it could be demonstrated the mesh state of two teeth surfaces with graph, which to verify the feasibility of the gear's geometry parameters. And put forward about the processing method and the processing device of the involute arc gear is developed. Analyzing the processing methods, the ideal involute arc gear could be processed out.This paper introduced the history of gear and its processing method's development and the current situation of research. Through analyzing the arc cylindrical gear meshing mechanism, its geometric parameters have been clarified. It is for the first time to clearly put forward the concept of the circumferential modulus, at the same time to analyze its transmission intensity. The results show that in the case of the similar main parameters, the strength of the involute arc cylindrical gear is better than the spur gear and the helical gear. The paper puts forward new processing methods:"Parallel- connected bar"and"Bidirectional Envelope-style"processing methods. The paper mainly analyzes the method and principle of the Bidirectional Envelope-style processing method. At last, the processing device is introduced. It is firmly believed that the arc cylinder gear will be improved continually. It has obvious advantages in gear transmission. It can be widely used.
