With the rapid development of industry, industrial pollution has become a serious problem. In general, industry becomes a major contributor to environmental pollution in China. To reduce the pollution load of industry system has significant implications for constructing resource-saving and environment-friendly society. Industrial pollution status differs among industries and regions due to the difference of each industry's pollution features, regional economy level, industrial structure, and the natural resources. Moreover, inter-province industrial products trade causes obvious pollution transfer, and this is an issue that can not be neglected for the regions and the nation to achieve the pollution reduction and sustainable development.So far, most related study has focused primarily on a few pollution indices or regions with less attention being paid to comprehensive assessment of industry system and systematic comparison among provinces. Besides, the countermeasures mainly focus on certain region's or industry's sustainable development due to the lack of systematic study on resource transportation and pollution transfer among regions and industries. The thesis studies the pollution degree of all industrial sectors and the industrial pollution status of all provinces, as well as the resource transportation and pollution transfer among provinces. This can serve as a guide to make assessment indices, criteria of resource-saving and environment-friendly society, and scientific countermeasures.First, the assessment indices, criteria, index weight and method to estimate the pollution degree of industry system are proposed. The PDRPG(pollution degree related to pollutant generated) and PDRPD(pollution degree related to pollutant discharged) of Chinese industries in the years 2001-2005 are calculated on the basis of related data in China Environmental Statistics Yearbook. Then, using the same method, the PDRPG and PDRPD of national and regional industry systems in the years 2001-2006 are estimated.In addition, the resource efficiency of industry system is assessed in two aspects-water resource and energy.As for resource transportation and pollution transfer among regions, the thesis develops a method to measure the pollution embodied in inter-province industrial products trade on the basis of China Environmental Statistics Yearbook and regional input-output table, and takes some region as cases.Taking into account the importance of coal, pollution embodied in inter-province coal trade is also studied. The pollution embodied in inter-province coal trade is measured in four aspects-industrial wastewater, COD, petroleum and industrial solid waste(coal gangue), and several provinces which have large amount of coal input or output are taken as cases.
