The recent national economic boom has been accompanied by rapid development of modern industry, which inevitably resorts to a vast variety of dangerous chemicals during progress. Among the various chemicals, benzene, whose application is on a constant rise, is likely to leak in the process of use and storage. Once the leakage happened, it would lead to poisoning, burning, and worse, explosion and environmental pollution, therefore incurring devastating personal casualty and economic loss.Current researches have reached a consensus that the effect of benzene leakage on the environment can be measured by multi-puff model which is based on the Bernoulli Equation and so on recommended by the Technical Guidelines for Environmental Risk Assessment on Projects, thereby to predict its influence along with time and on places of different distances. The Chemical Accident Preventive Measures issued by the State Safe Production Regulatory Administration, furthermore, ranks risk controls into I, II, III, and IV corresponding to the controllability, severity and influence of the accident(s).However, the literature review has revealed that the leakage of Class IV is in want of deeper research and more effective solutions. The thesis, therefore, lays its emphasis on the benzene's diffusion in a minor leakage accident and appropriate emergency measures. Taking into consideration of Shanghai climate, it designs both instant detection and analysis methods for the benzene leakage to make possible the semi-quantitative instant detection, a prerequisite to take appropriate measures afterwards. The findings in the thesis are based on the simulation tests of benzene diffusion, which summarize its diffusion rules and compare a variety of materials as to their capability to absorb benzene. In this way, a new generation of effective, efficient, safe, clean and simple material and its usage are presented in the thesis, which, in conclusion, provides a benzene leakage solution to its storage and transportation in Shanghai.
