College Dormitory Design Analysis

Since the beginning of the 21st century, with the income growth as well as science and technology advances, people's lifestyle has undergone a huge update, and in the continued rapid development and change, especially the lifestyles of college students. And the use time of most college dormitories is for decades. Previous research and practice focuses on plane type comparison and selection, based on the environment of that period, and optimization design for the general psychological and physical needs of users at that time. While foreign researchers have do some research at the flexibility and sustainability of student dormitory design, there is the domestic shortage in this area. Therefore, the research on the college dormitory design based on the needs of students in new times has a certain practical significance, can provide a theoretical reference for college dormitory design in new era.Firstly the study discusses the related basic theory and the technical method of the college dormitory design.Secondly, the thesis shows that there are coexistences of multiple periods of construction and a variety of design types. Analyzed the status quo of college dormitories designed and built in three different periods.Thirdly, the study finds that college students' requirement for the dormitory functions has became more complex, through the investigation of the accommodation conditions and requirements of college students of different ganders, majors, ages, educational backgrounds and family situations. They require more diverse types, and more abundant contents.Fourthly, the thesis analyzes the contradiction between demand and current situation about college dormitory design in new era. It suggests that most of the current college dormitories are too lack of flexibility and variability to meet the modern needs and future development. And describes the methods of student dormitory design in diversity, humanity, especially the flexibility and sustainability adapt to the needs of new era.Finally, the thesis shows the design of NO.10 dormitory in NCUT based on the methods above.
