Along with the economical development and the unceasing growth of people's living standards, the number of vehicle ownership in Kunming has increased by leaps and bounds. So far it has broken 1,000,000 which ranked ninth in the list of numbers of vehicle ownership around the country. The sustained growth of the number of vehicle ownership has brought huge pressure for the communications network of roads in cities.In order to alleviate the severe traffic pressure which increased day by day in cities, developing urban public transport utility vigorously has become the urban policy-maker's mutual recognition. The bus rapid transit (BRT) system provides a new choice for the development of urban public transport. Kunming is the first city who introduces the BRT system in our country. Considering the service quality and the facility construction, Kunming's BRT system was still at the primary stage. There is a big gap between the Kunming's BRT system and the high-quality BRT system of domestic and foreign cities, so that it needs to be renovated and upgraded urgently.This article takes the project-《Research on the BRT System Transformation Promotion Countermeasure in Kunming》which was presided together by Kunming Plan Bureau and Traffic engineering Institute of Kunming University of Science and Technology as a backing, conducts the research on the operation situation of public bus in a traffic intersection by using the Vissim microscopic traffic simulation software, chooses the optimization plan to carry on the contrastive analysis, and provides data and the policy-making support for the transformation and promotion of BRT system in Kunming.In this paper, based on the review of bus way development in Kunming, through investigating the operation parameters and analyzing the data, the parameter inputs which are needed for the microscopic simulation testing design has been obtained. The simulation experiment design has been carried on aimed at the intersection of Jiaosanqiao in Kunming city, and with the selection of microscopic simulation parameter the demarcation and the confirmation work have been performed. By designs of different optimization plans, attained parameters were contrasted and analyzed. The research considers that it is not necessary to make any adjustment for the station location of Jiaosanqiao in Kunming as the station locations are built in the upstream and the downstream of road intersections and do not obviously influent the public transportation operation as well as the vehicle operation. Unifying the BRT system's essential factors, project which are ways of collecting fees under the vehicle and up and down together in the high quality BRT vehicles are adopted to reduce the average time for per person up and down, and then the implementation effect has been confirmed through the simulation. The result of the test indicated that in the situation of keeping the existing passenger transport rate constant, the public transportation's departure frequency reduces while the large capacity single hinge BRT vehicles are applied, and traffic circulation condition of the intersection has been remarkable improved, but if the existing public transportation departure frequency was maintained, although the grow of the bodywork length has certain influence to the counterclockwise public transportation, the influence to the traffic circulation condition and the service level of the intersection is limited.The personnel ship ability can be enhanced approximately about 50%.
