Rotary machines are key equipments in electronic power, petrochemical, metallurgy, mechanics, aeronautics and some military industry. In modern production systems, the ties between the devices are closed Increasingly, some faults caused by an equipment may cause a chain reaction, These faults are harmful to the equipments and even the whole manufacturing process ,they would cause economic lose. Therefore, it is important to gather rotary mechanical signal and find faults through various analytical methods early in order to reduce losses.This paper presents a new fault detection method, that is, equal angle speed test method. Collect the mechanical rotary information by encoder, use high-precision clock pulses of 50M to calculate the pulse width of the encoder, and analyse the data with FFT spectrum and cepstrum analysis. Using FPGA as a logic control device, combines SOPC system on a chip to complete software and hardware's coordination design, establish a test system to verify whether the fault is sensitivity with this method.This paper consists of the following components: 1) the importance and the technology development of rotary machine are analyzed; 2) through the analysis of the system's function, the overall design of the system are identified;3) the hardware design process is completed, including component shaping, peripheral circuit designing, logic module designing, hardware functional module designing, PCB board designing and circuit board simulating, populating, welding and debugging;4) Data processing program and the interface function between each module and interface is completed in SOPC Builder environment; 5) Collect experimental data, using MATLAB to do Signal analysis, including FFT and cepstrum analyze, extract the fault signal characteristics and the characteristics is verified by experiments. This system is proved to be reasonable and effective by Preliminary experiments.
