With the rapid development of national economy, high-speed and heavy-load are the development direction of railway freight transport. Railway freight volumn becomes bigger and bigger, and the container flat wagon plays a significant role in the railway freight transport. As the speed of container train increases and the container flat wagon has a clear profile, interaction between train and air fluctuates violently.The paper regards 160km/h container flat car as the research object. The aerodynamic performance of the container train whose speed does not exceed 200km/h and its impact on the environment in some conditions, are studied by the method of numerical calculation, moving model test and wind tunnel test. In the paper, with the scale model, the container train was taken wind tunnel tests in the 8m x 6m wind tunnel in China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center and the aerodynamic coefficients of the container train were got in cross wind. Also, with the scale model, the container train was taken moving model tests in Central South University, Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Traffic Safety on Track and the pressure results of measurement points on the train and tunnel were got. The test results were compared with numerical results. The comparative results of tests and numerical calculation show that the values are similar and the results are in the same law, which confirms the reliability of the numerical calculation.The aerodynamic characteristics and the fluid field around the container train in cross wind, passing a tunnel, interacting with CRH2 EMU in the open air and inside the tunnel are numerically simulated, by means of the fluid analysis software FLUENT, based on the 3-D, steady and incompressible N-S equation, combined with the k-εturbulence model. The aerodynamic performance of the container train whose speed does not exceed 200km/h under various conditions is obtained by the dynamic model tests, the wind tunnel tests and the numerical calculation: the aerodynamic forces and moments of the container train are gained in cross wind; the amplitude and time course curves of pressure of the container body measurement points and the amplitude of aerodynamic force of the first section container flat car are got when the train meets the CRH2 EMU in the open air; when the train passes through the tunnel alone and meets the CRH2 EMU in the middle of the tunnel, the amplitude and time course curves of pressure of the measurement points of the container body and the tunnel are obtained as well as the the amplitude of lateral force.
