In the recent years, computer simulation has become a very important technique in the design, implementation and application of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system. The SAR image of ocean scene obtained by SAR simulation is used to carry out many ocean research and detection. At the same time, visualization in scientific computing combines computer computation with visualization and computer graphics, and transforms large scale of data generated in science and engineering computation to some visual forms appropriately, such as graphics and image. This can enable people to observe and evaluate the process and result of scientific computation more directly, which is the effect called"what you see is what you get".Traditional SAR simulation and imaging process is mainly based on the large complexity computation of mathematical software. The paper introduces the theory of random ocean waves and presents three dimensional modeling of ocean. Based on the research of ocean, after analyzing the mechanism of airborne SAR of ocean detection in depth, the paper design and implement an airborne SAR of ocean scene visual simulation system. The main part of this paper presents system architecture, working flow and implementation and related algorithm of every function modules. This simulation system is based on the Client/Server structure. The Client renders front-end scene with OpenGL, including drawing dynamic ocean scene, loading 3D model of flight vehicle, airborne SAR scan simulation, network communication, animation recording, SAR echo imaging and display, etc. The system is able to work under multiple radar modes and simulation conditions. The users can not only configure some SAR parameters and flying path to change simulation easily,but also select several angles of view to observe the whole process of simulation. The Server is mainly responsible for the generation of ocean elevation matrix and the computation of ocean echo, based on the GPU parallel computation. The simulation system and the simulation result show that our method can be used to implement the visualization of airborne SAR in ocean scene.
