This paper focus on the research of the charging characteristics of lead acid battery in the regenerative braking of electric vehicle. The vehicle driving model and the lead acid battery model are constructed. The characteristics of the distribution of the energy and power that the typical vehicles perform in various driving processes have been analyzed. The battery charging and discharging test bench is built. The definition of the largest primary chargeable current of the lead acid battery is proposed on the base of the experiment data. Base on the definition, a practical battery charging strategy using in the regenerative braking is achieved. The simulation of the regenerative braking in the saloon car 15 driving processes is finished by the regenerative charging model. At last, the feasibility of the research method of the charging strategy base on the lead acid battery to apply in the research of the Lithium-Ion battery is discussed.
