The information of distribution networks is an important infrastructure of power system. It is well concerned by researchers to rapidly gather, synthetically analyze, perfectly process and fully use the information of distribution network. With the advent of information era and the popularization of computers, the depth and extent of using distribution information should be more enlarged. This paper states an energy loss calculation and management system in power distribution networks on the geographic information system. This system is suitable for the development of information technology and is more accurate and more reliable for energy loss calculation. It is built using graphical technology of geographic information system and can be used as the graphical plate for power system software, making the operation and the management of the devices easy and intuitionist, and the analysis of network topology more automatic and accurate. In the aspect of the calculation of loss, this system calculates the loss of the active power and reactive power, forms the result in the database considering the differences of load-curves at every node, and allows the property or queries loss of the devices using graphic interface. If the system is connected to real data, it will change the graphics automatically, namely, print the color of the net, analyse which part is electriferous, alert of loads. This paper introduces the application of geographic information system in power system, the program of graphical plate is expatiated, improvement on information management in distribution networks, the data preparation of loss calculation, the accuracy improvement of load flow for distribution system and the function of statistic and query of loss result are also introduced.
