Substation is an essential facility in power system. Transforming voltage, receiving and distributing electric energy, controlling the flow of electricity and adjusting voltage are substation's main tasks. With the rapid development of substation automation technology, a variety of intelligent electronic devices IED have appeared in substation field and these devices gradually replaced the traditional relay protection device. Because the IED have many types, and different manufacturers'IED have different communication interface, different devices can not directly communication, and they must through protocol converter to communicate, which not only resulted duplication of hardware and software investment, also increases the cost of operation and maintenance of the substation. The produce of IEC61850 developed by IEC TC57 has solved the interoperability problems between devices. Taking the IED meeting the IEC61850 standard as the research object, this paper studies the IED model and configuration and realization of communication, which is divided into three parts, including analysis of IEC61850 standard system, modeling and achieving of communication mapping.First of all, this paper introduces the substation communication systems development and the research situation of IEC61850 standards at home and abroad. Then introducing the data communication of intelligent electronic devices, include communication interface and communication protocol and communication stipulation of an agreement, which were compared and indicated advantages and disadvantages.And then analyzing the content system and technical feature of IEC61850, which include the information hierarchy, the data object model, abstract communication service interface, special communication services mapping and substation configuration description language. On this basis, studying the modeling technique based on IEC61850, and first introducing the IED modeling method, and then taking universal circuit breaker as an example, decomposing the function, modeling of data, configuring through using SCL. Finally, introducing the special communication services mapping technique and describing the four mapping scenarios, including the core ACSI service, fast message transmission service, GSSE message transmission service, time and time synchronization service, and highlighting the GOOSE message transmission service mapping and designing communication program, using WinPcap simulate the GOOSE message transmission between the two PC.
