GPS intelligent inspection system is a new type of intelligent management system based on GPS (Global Positioning System) technique and PPC (Palm size Personal Computer) technique. This system can fix the position of transmission and transformer device using GPS, and record the state of device using the PPC, transmit information collected to PC (Personal Computer) through USB. Then using the management program on PC, you can analyze the data information gained from inspection.Now there are different types of GPS intelligent inspection system on the market. But these systems work unstable and can't be used easily. Their functions are not perfect and their use is affected highly by environment. When weather is bad, device can't be positioned exactly, so inspecting the accurate position can't be ensured. There are some reasons for that: GPS technique and PPC (Palm size Personal Computer) technique are not mature; choice of GPS receive module and disposal method of GPS's output data are not accurate also.Because of reasons pointed before, a suit of new solution of GPS intelligent inspection system is presented in this paper. This system integrates PPC and GPS receive module compactly, conquers some problems such as instability of system work, fallibility and discommodity of operation. These problems are lead by PPC link GPS through inserting card or line. And at the same time, it adopts optimal method to disposal output data of GPS receive module. So the error is decreased and position identification is ensured. PPC in the system is based on Microsoft Windows CE .NET OS, which is produced by Microsoft latest. At present, GPS receive module embedded in the PPC is the smallest and lowest power waste one which is called iTraxO2. To resolve the problem of being used limitedly, a method is presented which resolves identification accuracy of GPS transmission and transformer device's position from inside to outside. By selecting optimal GPS receive module and positioning method inside, absolutepositioning accuracy is improved. By selecting datum position of transmission and transformer device and algorithm for distance calculating outside, calculation error can be decreased. This system improves identification accuracy of transmission and transformer device's position, exploits its application occasion, and ensures inspecting the exact position and deploying of inspection work. Reading method of GPS's output information and processing method of longitude and latitude position information and time information are all studied in this paper. Considering the high accuracy and the rapid development of dual frequency GPS receive module, it is also studied in this paper. Being useful for developing GPS intelligent inspection system is expected.This paper has accomplished programming of GPS receive module and program design of PPC. The PC program and design of database are described briefly in this paper. All the software in this system is plain, operating-conveniently and practical.The system developed in this paper has been applied tentatively. It has showed high stability and accuracy. This system improves the quality of inspection system clearly, makes device inspection in power system intelligent and paperless, and makes a great progress in the automatization of electric power system.
