As we all know, voltage is one of the most important qualities of power. The voltage control is a very important work to keep the power system secure and stable. Because the voltage controllers of power system are distributed according to different areas, the mutual coordination and cooperation of controllers are important academic and practical problems which needed to be researched and resolved.Power system voltage control has a distributed and hierarchy structure with three levels. The secondary voltage control closes the control loop of the reference value setting of the controllers at the primary level by utilizing the regional information. This control way can get satisfactory effect in the aspects of improving system stability and maintaining enough reactive power reserve, so it is an effective voltage/VAR control. However, with more and more influences between different control areas, the secondary voltage control still has some defects in control process response, control precision and reliability.Agent is a new kind of technology originated from DAI, it makes possible for the distributed system to resolve problems logically and physically. With the development of the Multi-agent System (MAS), it is applied in many aspects widely, and it is arousing more and more attentions in control fields recently. In this paper we will embark on the research about the application of multi-agent technology in the secondary voltage control system. This paper researches the hierarchical and distributed voltage control system, putting forward the MAS based secondary voltage controlling system. In this control system, the primary voltage controllers are set as the Agents of implement level, and the secondary voltage controllers are set as the Agents of coordination level. So in the whole system, there are several sorted Agent groups. On one hand, each Agent completes individual task independently according to its own environmental information. On the other hand, it can receive voltage adjustment task from other Agents, and feed back the accomplishment information to the original Agent. Thecommon target of the whole multi-agent system is to maintain area voltage level. The simulation results show that the secondary voltage control system based on multi-agent system can resolve the problem for distributed coordination control effectively, and it can achieve better voltage regulation under normal and abnormal conditions.
