During the past 10 more years, the high economic growth rates in China , especially in GUANGDONG province, have brought on the fast growth for electric power demand. As the electrical plants in china almost are fire power plants, so it promotes the demand of power coal. The nature resource of coal is abundant in china, but the distribution of coal in china is very unequal. The demand for power coal of GUANGDONG province had to rely on shipping. The shipping of power coal from Chinese north to Chinese south is the main way. But presently, domestic power coal fleet tonnage is rather small and a ship age tends to be too old. What is more, many old-age Dry bulk ships have extended services. Therefore China's bulk carrier fleet can't at all undertake the mission of power coal of GUANGDONG province shipment. With such a background, this paper carries out the technical and economical discussion on ship style suitable for power coal of GUANGDONG province. The paper has analyzed the present situation of national coal market, and analyzed the relation of supply-demand. The paper has taken QINFANGDAO-CANTON trading line as an example, had a deep study of the method of technology and economy demonstration of coal carriers. According to an analysis and comparison of different ship type plans, we can know which is the best. This method can provide certain theoretical basis for ship investment of China's shipping industry. Thinking about the present situation of ports and sailing way, the results indicate that the HOPECAPE is appropriate for Chinese Coast Sea borne coal transportation, and thus, China should make the best use of HOPECAPE to ship power coal henceforth. Finally, for the policy of power coal safety, the paper gives some suggestions about fleet building and port condition.
