Geographical And Cultural Characteristics Of The Campus Environment Design Research

At present the campus of universities in China are expanding gradually, but the scheme as well as the development of campus environment are still relying on the cities where they are, consequently they are influenced by the culture and history and restricted by the factors of natural and economy development of the cities. As the design and the development of campus play a key role in economy development, culture dissemination and inheritance and embellishment of the city, it is important that how the environmental design of university campus expresses the characteristics of culture of the region as well as the distinguished appearance and cultural atmosphere.According to the fundamental theories and method of city design along with the object of the public environment in university campus, the thesis analyzes the problems of campus design nowadays, and then it explains the effect of regional culture from the aspects of natural environment, cultural atmosphere, open spaces and continual development of the city. As a result, it solves the problems that how to merge the regional culture into the design of campus environment and how to construct the characteristic of campus.The thesis is divided into 6 chapters. In Chapter 1 it introduces the research background, significance, content and method of the thesis and defines related concepts. Chapter 2 imports some basic concepts and methods of city design while describes the circumstances and development inclination of environmental design in China. Chapter 3 analyzes the situation, existing problems and their causes of the environmental design with the characteristic of regional culture of xi'an. Then it puts forward the corresponding solution. Chapter 4 studies the characteristic of regional culture of xi'an in details, and puts forward specific design method of campus environment which is based on the regional culture. Chapter 5 analyzes and proves the method with the instance of new campus's environmental design of NWPU, and then it discusses how to keep the characteristic of regional culture in the campus environment design further. In the end, some advice and assumption are brought up to contribute to the theories of campus environment design and city culture inheritance.
