Research About The Landscape Architecture Design Method Under The Critical Regionalism

With the process of global integration, many areas have being introspected the fading of "regional culture" after the prosperity of "universal civilization". When people have to face the increasingly rampant "homogenization" architecture and landscape, they start a profound reflection about their own aesthetic and cultural. In1924, in view of global industrial production and economic exploitation, a lot of characterless and boring architectures appeared. Lewis Mumford put forward a critical significance of "regionalism" point of view for the first time.At the same time, in the impact of globalization, some Chinese colleges and universities have been building new campus for various reasons, even establishing a college town following western countries. Some new colleges and universities campus appeared lots of problems, such as the lack of humanistic care, characteristic, vitality in, and unreasonable spaces. In our impression, the environment of universities campus should be one of the ideal environments to many people:peace, freedom, green, open bright ivory tower. These kinds of pursue to universities campus make many university planners and college landscape designers to do more studies about environment of the whole campus and lives of teachers and students. How to do a perfect interpretation of campus life, and how to make a good studying surroundings, is now a new direction of the construction of universities and colleges. This paper is about solving the basic needs of universities campus landscape environment which put a forward the trail of "Critical Regionalism", in view of the characteristic of campus construction.For the colleges and universities, their environments directly influence the school life, work, study and communication between teachers and students. A good and distinctive landscape environment will promote students’ communication, and it is conducive to the development of campus culture. With regard to Critical Regionalism, it will pay more attention to the humanistic spirit and regional characteristics, the ground truth and natural texture design thinking. It is a good theory to study how to build a unique characteristic of the context in terms of college campus. In the meantime, this paper will show some universities campus landscape cases which have character of Critical Regionalism. Hope to provide some references for Chinese universities campus landscape construction in the future according to views of this paper and research results.
