The real-time condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of rotating machinery is an effective strategy that guards against severe accidents for rotating machinery. Data acquisition plays an important role in the whole condition monitoring system. So researching data acquisition has an impotant practical meaning and appliance foreground. This paper concerned the design method for a Data Acquisition system.Based on the investigations and analysis of the internal and overseas DAS (Data Acquisition System) technology, and according to the requirement of the real-time condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of rotating machinery, this paper designed the data acquisition. This DAS adopted ARM (Advanced RISC Machines), CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) and network technology. And the system structure of DAS, method of software/hardware design and realization has been described in this paper. These contents are as follows.1. According to fault diagnosis's character and the system's performance index, which is multichannel, high-speed, real-time monitoring, the hardware structure has been divided four functional modules, then the paper discussed the characteristics of each of modules. Finally, the design of the whole hardware structure platform has been finished. Each of modules is independent, which is embedded ARM CPU. This character enhances the systems flexible, so the functional modules can be increased or decreased in job site. For the sake of easy control and increasing flexivity, the CPLD technology has been used. Every module and superior server can communicate by the application of network technology.2. In order to manage the whole hardware structure platform and develop programmes expediently, the paper designed the software development platform and built the crossing compile environment, and realized the poring of bootloader, Linux operation system, file system, Busybox and so on. In the process of porting of Linux, the kernel was appropriately changed based on the system requirements, thereby, it cans make the hardware's running status better and more stable.3. Combining the characteristics of the hardware and software develop platform, the device driver and application program has compiled. The deviece driver realized some system call functions and it can convenience the design of application program.
