It is well known that Germany and Japanese products are admired all over the world, but what factors enable their products to have so great success in the market? And how we should understand and get profits from the same success? This research has thoroughly excavated the original factors of the success in the form of products, and has pointed out the guiding ideology for our Chinese design.Firstly this research has made careful analyses about the product form, this paper has carried the research into a new extention of product form with the development of the society and indicated three levels of the product form. This research has summarized something in common, differences and their own characteristics of the product form in the way of taking the design practice of Germany and Japanese for an example and analyzing the development of their cars' form. Then it has summarized the idea of the product form in each ideology, which includes rationality, succinct, great attention on human' s physiology and conservation, matureness and innovation coexisting in Germany design. And the fewest-principles, the smallest-form and the most important—function as well as the national esthetic factor in Japanese design. On this basis, this paper has studied the key factors that induce these differences and characteristics. It analyzed the external causes from politics, economics and culture, which are the three sub factors that comprise the society, and the internal causes as model, structure, material and ornamental characteristics. Finally the paper has made a conclusion and pointed out some methods and ideas which are useful to the design in our country.
