The development of substation automation brings some new demands on its communication network. The most important thing is that the new and high-powered communication network is used to meet the demand of technology progress. The trend of new substation automation is that Ethernet will be used for process bus and station bus in transformer substation. So this paper which takes the presently communication technology of substation automation as foundation, put forward and research a kind of computer-human interaction and communication system of computer protection device which consists of high performance ARM embedded microprocessor and RTOS(Real Time Operation System).According to analyzing the advantage or disadvantage of every kinds of communication techniques of substation automation, the paper was detailed to introduced the principle of the system and composing and its advantage; Emphasized to analyze the software and hardware design principle of the embedded network system based on the company of Philips 32 bits embedded microprocessor LPC2292, putting out the hardware principle diagram; make the detail, meticulous treatise to the porting of embedded RTOS which is one of the key techniques of the system, and point out some key problem that software design should notice. LPC2292 has high-speed calculation capability and abundant equipments on chip, and provide with many communication interfaces: one industrial RS-485 bus, two CAN fieldbuses and two Ethernet interfaces.The software platform of embedded system was founded by porting RTOS to LPC2292 and programming the drivers of hardware. According to functions, the sources and tasks'priorities were allocated and the applications were also programmed based on multi-tasks scheduling.Abundant communication interfaces with the adaptation of various communication protocols greatly improved the communication ability of the system. The protocols of modbus were detailed introduced in this paper, based on profound analysis of basic principle and concepts of message transmission of serial communication.
