With the development of our national economy and the improving of the civilian living standard level, the automobile purchase is become more and more popular, the car has been popular for every one. The problem of urban traffic is increasingly serious. Therefore, it is urgent for all of us to solve this problem by adopting modern scientific technology and intelligent method.Urban Traffic System is a giant system with randomicity, complexity and uncertainty. It is hard to build mathematical model. So the intelligent method such as fuzzy control, GA must be adopted to solve the traffic problem. Building effective intelligent transportation system is the key of the present research. Intelligent Transportation System, an instant, accurate, efficient, widespread and all-round influential managerial system of transportation based on the combination of comparatively perfect road infrastructure , advanced computer technology, technetronic, sensor technology and systematical hard technology, is mainly responsible for supervision of the land transportation. It includes the following factors: artificial intelligent transportation control system, artificial intelligent driving system, inducible system of cars, service system for transport information , first aid system and so on.According to the current situation of traffic, by applying Agent technology to traffic control system, presenting agent-based architecture of intelligent traffic control based on previous theory. The structure of traffic agents is discussed and the coordination problems between traffic agents are described, meanwhile, fuzzy logic is applied to traffic decision-making and the control rules are optimized by genetic algorithms. Simulation test fully indicates the effectiveness of the approach, which provides guide in theory and method for real application system development.This paper includes six chapters. The first chapter states the study task and the current situations. The second one briefly introduces the basic theory of Agent technology. The third one applies Agent technology to traffic control system. Chapter four introduces Agent decision-making mechanism, namely traffic control strategy. The fifth one realizes traffic simulation by using VisualC++. The last one includes work summary and the future study object.
