Currently, there is no unified definition of the reactive power, and the theoreticalfoundation of detection of reactive power still remains in the traditional definition ofreactive power. Therefore, in the case of the Harmonics worsening pollution now, a morereasonable definition of the reactive and non-reactive detection methods are neededurgently. As Power electronic devices are used widely, it greatly increases the nonlinear loadsof power systems. Meanwhile, as three-phase asymmetry is also increasing seriously, itraises some new topics of power compensation of three-phase reactive.Meanwhile, as power electronics technology developing, the development of reactivecompensation equipment transferees from the synchronous compensator, serial (or parallel)capacitance, inductance compensation, to static var compensator (SVC), which provides anew powerful controllable tool. Due to the prominence of the SVC rapid adjustment, it isgreatly significant of in-depth studying on SVC controlling in the reactive powercompensation.Firstly, this paper introduces popular definitions of reactive power, and does detailedanalysis and comparison, which highlights the definition of reactive power based on thearbitrary waveform cycle of voltage and current; then introduces the basic structure andworking principle of (FC+TCR)SVC, which highlights the principle of non-symmetriccompensation; then introduces the new method of non-symmetrical load reactivecompensation; then proposes an improved method of reactive power compensation; At last, does some simulation of this method in Matlab.
