Coal transport system, which unloads, stores, sends and allocates coals to the generation units, is a major operation assistant system in coal-fired power plants. The system is consisted of various controlled equipment in different locations. As the technical process of the system is complex. With the developments in the power industry, computerized automatic control technology has been widely used in the production process in power plants, and this trend has gradually moved to coal transport system.This thesis will study and discuss the development trends in computer-controlled coal transport system. Based on the study of the current centralized model that is being used in the Guangzhou Pearl River Power Plant, this thesis attempts to have a thorough discussion on the technical upgrade of computer-controlled coal transport system, and provides with a detailed upgrade plan for the system—to use the hierarchical computer-controlled system, PLC and Ethernet technology in data collection, centralized-operation, real time monitoring, data storage, emergency alarm, coal consumption analysis, paging system, and TV graph switch in the coal transport system. With its high level of automation, powerful control and management, easiness to operate, and strong reliability, the system adapts perfectly into the environment of the power plant.After the upgrade, the automation level and reliability of the system have been improved, the accident rate will be lowered, and less labor will be required in the maintenance and operation of the system. Only 10 workers will be able to complete the operation, instead of the 17 workers needed before the upgrade, which efficiently helps to reduce the labor cost.In addition, this thesis will also study the double closed loop PI control technology using in the control system of the ship-unloader, which is the most important equipment in the coal transport system. The technical parameter of the system will be designed and proposal on adjustment and improvement will be put forwards to optimize the performance of the system.
