In this paper, Analyzing the power situation, power policy in China and the development of refrigeration technology, in view of the locomotive-conditioner's high consumption of oil and it's affection on the motivity and safety of the locomotive, the author prompt to design a lithium bromide absorption air-conditioning unit in locomotive. This unit driven by high temperature cooling fluid of the engine, can reduce the consumption level of oil a, avoid the affection of the large-power transmitter (DC 110V to AC380V) to the circuit of locomotive and locomotive malfunctions, Which reduce the consumption of oil largely, improve the motivity of the locomotive, degrade the pollutant of the engine discharge and then reduce the pollution on the environment. The three benefits of reducing the energy consumption, improving the safty of locomotives, and purifying the environment are attained.By a large amount of information searching, studying of the theory of heat pump cooling, especially lithium bromide absorption air-conditioning, a elementary design of lithium bromide absorption air-conditioning unit of locomotive is made. The theory of heat transfer and the approximate computation method are used to calculate the locomotive air conditioning cooling load. And the methods of the thermodynamics, the heat transfer and the hydrodynamics are used to do the calculating of the thermodynamic and the heat transfer area of the unit in locomotive. And then, the conclusion that the lithium bromide absorption air-conditioning system can be used in locomotive is drawn up. Furthermore, The heat transfer area of the unit and the length of the heat transfer pipe are calculated.Base on the calculation of the cooling fluid of engine, the heat transfer area of the unit and the length of the heat transfer pipe, the temperature and flow of the cooling fluid is fitful to the lithium bromide absorption air-conditioning unit of locomotive, The lithium bromide absorption air-conditioning unit can be miniaturized and fit to locomotives.
