This paper focused on the switched reluctance motor. A new linear switched reluctance starter/generator and a 4-phase high voltage switched reluctance power stage have been designed. Based on that power stage, control software has been programmed.The design of the linear switched reluctance starter/generator includes the parameters of the mechanical dimension and phase windings. There are several steps to finish the design. First step is to decide the configuration of the motor following the performance requirements. Second step is to get the flux-current curve using the finite elements method. Third step is to verify the configuration with MATLAB so that it can match the performance.The switched reluctance power stage was divided into two parts, the power part and the control part. The power part is based on the 4-phase asymmetry half bridge circuit, and includes other module like DC-power and IGBT driver. The control part is based on the 56F8013 DSP from Freescale. The periphery module includes photoelectric insulate, DC-bus voltage and phase current sampling and protect, position sampling and serial communicate.With the power stage and motor, both open-loop and closed-loop procedure has been programmed based on the voltage PWM chop control strategy. Experiments under both open-loop and clsed-loop condition have been carried out, in order to verify that the power stage and some modules of the control software can work properly.
