Connecting rod is one of the most important parts in aircraft piston engines, it transforms reciprocating linear movement of piston into rotary movement of the crankshaft, transfers the movement and the force, endures the break out-force of the mixture gas, the reciprocating inertia force and the self-swing inertial force. These forces changes cyclically in the size and the direction,This status cause easily connecting rod's fatigue failure.If connecting rod is broken for fatigue failure,then engine internal parts will be damaged for the impacting of parts broken.Finally, the whole engine will be failure.Some factory,the only lycoming piston engine overhaul organization in China, is still not the capacity of maintaining the connecting rod of Lycoming engine. In order to meet the task of flight training in some university and the need of other navigation units, short the cycle of engine maintained and managed, reduce maintenance and manage costs and improve the quality of engine maintained and managed. So,the research of lycoming piston engine connecting rod maintained-tested technology and the exploitation of manage system is very important.In this paper,we look LW-77450 connecting rod of Lycoming aircraft engine as the main object of studying, we have made a in-depth analysis of the various failure mechanism about connecting rod, and made the innovative research and the exploratory research of connecting rod maintained and tested technology, the main contents are as follows:1. Research of the failure mechanismWe have made a research of the many years experience of overhauling this type engines;made a statistic of various forms of con-rods failure; studied the structural design theory of connecting rod, the electrochemical corrosion theory, the abrasion theory and the fatigue failure theory, analysed the various failure forms and found the reasons of connecting rod various failure.2. Research of the maintaining methods and technical standardsOn the basis of the completion of failure research,we established the content of connecting rod maintained and the corresponding repair methods; After studying the theory of connecting rod design (including the study of sliding bearing lubrication) we obtainted the key technical parameters of maintaining connecting rod,finalized the technical criteria of maintaining connecting rod.3.The exploitation of connecting rod maintained-tested manage system. Some important informations of connecting rod repaired should be managed by a computer.So we have to complete the exploitation of manage system.
